What began more than forty-one years ago with 68 charter members following their hearts for God, has multiplied to an average of 1350 people each Sunday morning. What a blessing!

In 1965, a Steering Committee was elected to serve the Hyland Heights Baptist Mission. A full slate of officers was elected and Randall Layne was called to serve as Interim Pastor.

Four acres of land were acquired in April 1966, which is where the current building now stands. The mission voted to form a church and an application was submitted to the Lynchburg Baptist Association for membership. Sixty-eight persons were declared to be charter members as the organizational service was conducted by the Lynchburg Baptist Association on June 26, 1966.

Charter member, Peggy Jones, remembers feeling excited about starting a new church, but apprehensive about the unknown. Even with uncertainty, there was never any thought of turning back or dissention among the group. They continued to vote on issues and move forward.

Hyland Heights has been responsible for organizing two church plants. Maranatha Baptist Mission in Brookneal began in March of 1975, and Hyland Baptist Fellowship in Wytheville began it's ministry in October 2005.

Maranatha Baptist Mission became a church on May 1, 1975 with sixty-four members. Hyland Baptist Fellowship, under the leadership of Pastor Chris Huffman, continues to grow as they minister to the Wytheville community.

The heart and soul of the church is its members and we are grateful to the Lord for truly blessing the growth and development of Hyland Heights Baptist Church.
