December 2007

Dear Hyland Heights Church Family,

The Sunday night before Thanksgiving we joined as a church family for a follow-up campaign dinner. Hundreds of folks gathered together to give thanks and break bread together, while we also heard a progress report on the building campaign.

The month of November was a time to give thanks. Hopefully, you gathered with family and friends, giving thanks for God's provision. Maybe it was hard for you to find something to be thankful for. There's a line in a popular song that says, "Blessed be Your Name, on the road marked with suffering, though there's pain in the offering, blessed be Your Name."

God never promised it would be easy. The road marked with suffering comes with pain, grief and heartache. But it also comes with blessings.

It has not been easy trying to build a new sanctuary and expand our church facilities. But we press on toward the prize. We push toward the goal. We join together to unite for a common purpose - not just to build a building, but to see the Great Commission fulfilled through the life and the lives of our church family.

The Food Pantry distributed meals to 250 families. Toys are being collected for several different causes. The angel tree ministers to families within our own church who need extra help this holiday season. We reach out to the hurting and helpless. We care for the sick and weary.

So we ask - what do you have to be thankful for? You might not be able to look joyfully toward this holiday season. It might be all you can do to make it through one day at a time. We want you to know Hyland Heights is a family who cares. Be thankful for a church that stands firm upon God's Word and His promises. Find comfort in knowing this church is a place you can call home.

It's been one full year since we kicked off this campaign. It may not have been easy for you to write that commitment check each time, but we know God is at work and He is blessing. We look forward to celebrating the birth of our Savior with you. We anticipate ringing in the new year and breaking ground for our new facility. We can't wait to see what God intends to accomplish through our faithfulness to Him.

In service to our Lord Jesus Christ and the Hyland Heights Baptist Church family,

Carl & Sandy Brewer, Jeremy & Jamie Funderburk, Jimmy & Sheryl Marston
