Bless the Lord - Weekly Celebration (Feb. 19)

"I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will boast in the Lord; the humble will hear and be glad. Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together." (Psalm 34:1-3)

It’s been a great week at Hyland Heights and God is certainly worthy of our praise!

Below are celebrations from the week, as well as our most recent financials.

3 Circles:

3 little circles can make a big difference in someone’s life! No, this isn’t a new pregnancy test, it’s a simple tool that anyone can use to share the gospel. Last Sunday, we took time in worship to practice sharing the gospel together. If you missed the worship service last week, make sure to watch it at hhbc.net/watch and see what all the buzz is about! For a simple 3 circles presentation, check out The 3 Circles Presentation on Vimeo.

New to Hyland Heights:

This past week, 8 people committed to join as members of Hyland Heights. We continue to see God work in incredible ways as new people plug into the life of our church through our connect class and through baptisms. You can find more information about both at hhbc.net/nextsteps.

Ordination Sunday:

We are looking forward to ordaining several deacons during the 11:00am service on Sunday, February 21st. In addition, Jackson Richardson, our prospective student pastor, went through an ordination council comprised of pastors and professors and we will have the opportunity to celebrate what God is doing in his life through an ordination worship service that same Sunday evening at 6:00pm.

Student Pastor Search Update:

Last Sunday, our Student Pastor Search Team shared with our church that after much prayer and significant time with several candidates, the team is unanimous in recommending Jackson Richardson to serve as our next Student Pastor at Hyland Heights. A Q&A with Jackson and his wife, Ellie, has been scheduled for Saturday, February 20th in the SMC from 4-6pm. We hope that many of you will take this opportunity to get to know Jackson and Ellie better. Jackson will be preaching in both 9:30 and 11:00am services on the 21stand a special called business meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 28th at 4pm to vote on Jackson Richardson as our Student Pastor.

2 Ways to Go in March:

First, you can learn more about how you can be a part of a 1-day mission trip (March 13th), working with The Hill Church in Roanoke, a partner church of Hyland Heights. Join us for lunch in the gym (registration required) on February 21st. Here is the link to register: https://hylandheights.churchcenter.com/people/forms/214188.

Second, March 14th we hope you will join us for “Go. Love. Serve.” This is a special Sunday where our church will be completely mobilized through our Life Groups to serve the community and share Jesus with our neighbors. Join a Life Group this Sunday to find out how you can be a part!

Did you see it?

We hope you have had the chance to check out our new CarePortal video released on Thursday. CarePortal provides us with a unique opportunity to meet needs in our community, with the goal of building relationships in order to share the gospel. To learn more, check out hhbc.net/careportal.

We did it!

This week also included our church officially completing the refinance on our church mortgage. This is a huge praise and worthy of our celebration! This refinance means that more of your generous gifts are freed up to support the work of ministry and mission at Hyland Heights. On Friday February 19th we can truly say that your generous giving helps to further the kingdom of God better than the day before. Thank you for your continued generosity and know that it is making an incredible impact in our church, community, and world.

A Matching Gift for Projectors:

I shared last Sunday that we received a $10,000 matching gift to replace our projector that has been out for several months. That means that any gift you give to help us meet this need is virtually doubled! Please consider praying and giving over and above your regular generous giving so that we can get this accomplished together. And as always, thank you for being an amazingly generous church who is focused on the mission of Jesus.

HHBC Weekly Financials:

February 14 Offering: $ 39,381.36

Weekly Budget: $33,228.00

Sunday Reminders:

Please remember that giving in worship will continue to look different as long as Covid-19 persists. We will not pass the plates for your safety, but will have offering boxes at each entrance to the worship center where you can give as you enter or exit. If you cannot be here in person or prefer to mail a check, the address to the church office is: 11452 Wards Rd. Rustburg, VA. 24588. For many, we know that you have started to give online, and this continues to be an excellent choice to make giving easier/safer for you and to make sure that the ministry and mission of HHBC continues to impact more lives in the weeks to come. If you would like to give to Hyland Heights online, simply go to hhbc.net/give.

HHBC continues to strive to keep our church family safe during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. We continue to encourage everyone to take the precautions you would take when entering into any other building. If doing things like social distancing, washing hands well, and wearing masks can help us love our neighbors better and avoid potential spread in our church family so we can continue worshiping together in person, we should strive to do these things as much as we are able. We also want to remind everyone that the 9:30 service still has plenty of room for you and your family to join us while best maintaining social distancing. Thank you for your help and understanding as we strive to keep the people we love as safe as possible. For additional information on HHBC’s response to Covid-19 go to hhbc.net/coronavirus.

Praising the One who is worthy,

Dr. Josh Carter
