VBS in response to COVID-19

Hello Church Family,

Though we originally planned to move forward with Vacation Bible School this summer, with much prayer and consideration of best practice recommendations from our governor and the CDC for maintaining the health and safety of our children, and in response to the ever-changing situation in Virginia regarding the projected impact of the Coronavirus, our team has chosen to cancel VBS at Hyland Heights this year.

Unfortunately, the cases of COVID-19 are trending upwards in Virginia, and the vacation spots that many of us love to visit during the summer are seeing dramatic increases in exposure. With places like Myrtle Beach, Florida, and the North Carolina beaches seeing higher case-levels, and those cases being brought back to our area by those who are traveling, we believe it is in the best interest of our kids to not have our VBS program this summer.  We feel strongly that we can maintain our regular Sunday morning services and even a short midweek service while still keeping our kids safe. VBS, however, means five nights of two to three hours of programming with many new children coming from all over our community in much larger numbers to attend. At this time, we do not believe that we would be able to maintain the best practices and protocols necessary to ensure the safety of our children during such a week.

We are planning smaller-scale activities for our children on July 15 and July 22 that we can hold while maintaining the safety standards and protocols recommended by our governor and the CDC, and that you have come to expect from our weekly services. You can look forward to additional communication about these in the future!

Please pray as we move forward with our summer plans.
