We Have a Certain God

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

This past Sunday we heard Dr. Wheeler say, "We can face an uncertain tomorrow because we have a certain God." Repeat that sentence a couple of times to yourself and let that truth set in for a few minutes. Now consider these words from our Lord, Jesus Christ in Matthew 6:25-34. 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." I have been asked a few times over the last few weeks if I am worried about who the new guy will be and what may happen to the church. I would be lying to you if I said that I haven't even considered it, but I do know that God is control. I reflect back on what God laid on Pastor Carl's heart when He told him that He would take care of His bride. This truth is so very evident. I have been at Hyland Heights long enough to know that God will take care of us. He always has and He will continue to do so if we rely on Him. It is a huge blessing to have Dr. Wheeler to fill in the coming months. He shared with the staff yesterday that God has laid on his heart the message, that we must engage our community and move forward. We can't just wait around and flounder for the next few months. It is still our mission to make disciples that make disciples. So let's join together and do the work that God has given us to do. I know I am encouraged and know that God knows the beginning, the middle, and the end of our story. We just need to trust in Him, do His work today, and not worry about tomorrow. Please join with me in praying for the family of Pete Johnson. Pete went home to be with the Lord on Sunday and he will be laid to rest today. Also please keep praying for our Pastor Search Team as they continue with the beginning stages of finding our next Pastor. Wednesday's forecast is not looking very good at the moment. At this point no decisions have been made as to if we will cancel Wednesday night services or not. But keep in mind that if we do cancel one activity, we will cancel all activities. Speaking of Wednesday, let me encourage you to join Dr. Butch McCarthy on Wednesdays as he leads an adult Bible study and prayer time in room 102 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM. Lastly, and one of benefits of writing this email, is that we need your help on Sunday. The children's ministry will be selling dozens of Krispy Kreme donuts throughout the morning. Each dozen is $8.00 and all of the profit from the sale will go towards our summer camp ministry. Right now we have about 130 dozen to sell on Sunday. If you would like to preorder a dozen, please email me back and let me know. I will add your name to the list. Have a great week and may God bless you and your family.

Serving His Kids with a Passion,

Pastor Mike
