Weekly Celebration (August 8)

1 Come, let’s shout joyfully to the Lord, shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving; let’s shout triumphantly to him in song.
3 For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. 4 The depths of the earth are in his hand, and the mountain peaks are his. 5 The sea is his; he made it. His hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let’s worship and bow down; let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep under his care.

- Psalm 95:1-7

Below you will find exciting celebrations, important information, as well as our weekly financial report. There is so much to celebrate this week, so let’s get to it!

Honoring Heroes: One of the great celebrations from this past week was taking time to honor one of our members, Deputy Allen Williams, of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, who while off duty, dove head first into a sewage drain to rescue a 4 year old boy who had fallen in. God placed Deputy Williams in the right place at the right time. His actions serve as a reminder to us all, whether it makes a momentary, lifetime, or eternal impact, God places us where He needs us and we are to be ready in-season and out of season to serve Him (2 Timothy 4:2). Deputy Allen Williams was recognized by WSET News: https://wset.com/news/local/campbell-county-sheriffs-deputy-rescues-boy-from-sewer-drain

Children’s Camp Fun: Our children are having an amazing time at Camp Oak Hill this week. Please continue to keep them in your prayers, for their safety and most importantly that God would use this week to help them know and grow in Jesus. This Saturday: Saturday, August 8th, Hyland Heights will be hosting a women’s ministry simulcast from 9:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m. Speakers include Beth Moore, Pricilla Shirer, Kelly Minter, Jen Wilkin, Jennifer Rothschild, and more. Cost will be $10 and include a boxed lunch. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and to keep everyone safe during the event space will be limited for this event. For more information and to register for the event go to hhbc.net/women. If you have questions about the event you can email us women@hhbc.net.

Sunday Reminders: As we continue to see Covid-19 numbers rise in our community, we remind everyone to take the precautions you would take when entering into any other building. If doing things like, social distancing, washing hands well, and wearing masks can help us love our neighbors better and avoid potential spread in our church family so we can continue worshiping together in person, we should strive to do these things as much as we are able. Last week we saw many more people wearing masks in our hallways and would say this is a good thing, as our hallways are the hardest place to maintain social distancing. We also want to remind everyone that the 9:30 service still has plenty of room for you and your family to join us while best maintaining social distancing. Thank you for your help and understanding as we strive to keep the people we love as safe as possible. For additional information on HHBC’s response to Covid-19 go to hhbc.net/coronavirus

Celebrating Dr. Wheeler: We are so grateful to have had Dr. Wheeler serve as our interim pastor over the past year. God placed the right man for the right time in this role for our church. I want you to know that Dr. Wheeler and I have continued to enjoy our friendship since April and even enjoyed breakfast together this morning. Dr. Wheeler has been such a great encourager and supporter of mine during these first months as your pastor. On August 16th I have invited Dr. Wheeler to join us again. He will be preaching in both services, but we also want to “surprise” him by expressing our gratitude for his love and leadership over the past year. If you were blessed by his ministry to HHBC as interim pastor, we want to encourage you to write a note of thanks and even consider including a monetary gift or gift card. If you place these in the offering buckets this Sunday, April 9th, we will be presenting them to him on stage on the 16th. Thanks so much for helping us thank this wonderful man of God!

Next Sermon Series: We are very near to wrapping up our sermon series on the Lord’s Prayer. So what’s next? Starting August 30th we will begin walking through one of my favorite epistles, the book of Ephesians. A few weeks ago I mentioned how amazed I was at our youth taking such good notes from the various sermons they listened to at camp. If you are a note taker, check out this resource as a way to keep all your notes together for the next sermon series: Ephesians Scripture Journal

Save the Dates/Join in the Fun:

  • Sunday, August 16th, Dr. David Wheeler will be back with us for worship in both services. It is also promotion Sunday for our Children’s and Youth Ministries.

  • Sunday, August 23rd, we are launching several new life groups. Look for more info in the coming weeks and if you are interested in joining a Life Group, let us know at hhbc.net/nextsteps.

  • Sunday, August 30th, at 6:30 p.m. we are planning a time of celebration where we will also be sharing exciting updates regarding the life and ministry here at HHBC. Yes, there are a few things that need voted on. Yes, that officially makes this a business meeting. BUT I assure you, it’s one you won’t want to miss!

HHBC Weekly Financials:

Weekly Offering: $54,740.56

Weekly Budget: $33,228.00

As of August 3rd, we have received 108% of our year-to-date budget.

Please continue to remember that giving in worship will continue to look different throughout phase 2 of our regathering plan. We will not pass the plates for your safety, but will have offering baskets where you can give as you exit the worship center following whichever service you attend. For many, we know that you have started to give online and this continues to be an excellent choice to make giving easier/safer for you and to make sure that the ministry and mission of HHBC continues to impact more lives the weeks to come. If you would like to give to Hyland Heights online, simply go to hhbc.net/give.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

- Philippians 4:4-7
