Find Rest in Jesus - Weekly Celebration (September 16th, 2021)

I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken."(Psalm 62:1-2)

Rest. Even in a world that is almost demanding us to stop more than we care to due to the lingering pandemic, rest is not something that most of us handle very well. Yet rest is something that our body, mind, and soul longs for. We were created with rest in mind, not just rest from the day, rest from the work, rest from the stress, but in a far deeper way, we each have the desire to rest spiritually. Ultimate rest is not found in a moment, but found in a person, in Jesus. It is not in the absence of overwhelming circumstances, but in the presence of the glory, majesty, and might of the Savior. I am often reminded in moments of stress, when the pressures of the world seem too much to bear, of the lyrics to the hymn, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”. They refrain says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”

Do you need a moment of rest this week? “We all do!” is the answer. Take time today to get quiet with Jesus. Read His Word. Take time to be still and pray. And join us this Sunday for Life Groups and worship as we continue our new sermon series in the book of Titus.

Below are also a few celebrations from the past week as well as our most recent financial update.

New Life Group Launching Sunday: We love our Life Groups! If you’re still not a part of one, this week is a great week to check one out, including a new one (generally for those married with kids in elementary to middle school), which will be meeting in room 123. Or check out all our Life Groups at hhbc.net/connect today!

Hyland Heights Café is Coming: Last Sunday we “soft-launched” our café! Coming in October, we plan to have the café near entrance 3 open again. We still need help to make it happen each week. If you would like to be a part of our café hospitality team, email Tim Fus at tfus@hhbc.net.

New Connections Happening Weekly: Over the past month, we have seen an average of 20 new people visiting Life Groups and 8 people who are visiting Hyland Heights for the very first time. Take time this week to invite and greet the new people who are around you!

New Members: Last Sunday wrapped up our September Connect Class and we will be introducing 8 new members to you soon! We praise God for how He continues to grow our church family. Next connect class starts in October and you can sign up at hhbc.net/nextsteps.

Salvation Celebration: Last Wednesday night we saw another student come to faith in Christ! Continue to pray that God would use our student ministry to see many more come to Christ in the coming weeks.

A Good Week to Celebrate Baptisms: This coming Sunday we will celebrate baptisms in the 11:00am worship service. Make sure to join us to celebrate how God is transforming lives!

Mike Summy Sabbatical Reminder: We want to remind the church that Mike Summy, our Children’s Pastor, is on Sabbatical the month of September. God has used Mike in incredible ways over the past 20 years at Hyland Heights and we look forward to seeing how God continues to work through him for many years to come. Pray that this time away is restful, provides him amazing opportunities to connect with various children’s leaders around our state, allows him to bring encouragement to our HHBC missionaries who serve in Hungry (where Mike is this week), and gives him fresh vision and excitement as he returns.

Upcoming Women’s Ministry Event: Join us for the Going Beyond Simulcast with Pricilla Shirer on Saturday, September 25th beginning at 9:00am. At the Going Beyond simulcast, you'll find whole-hearted teaching to inspire and challenge you to step into God’s plan for your life, as well as powerful worship that centers your heart on Christ. Cost for the event is $10 and you can register today at www.hhbc.net/items/women's-simulcast---going-beyond.

HHBC Weekly Financials:

Weekly Offerings have averaged just above $37,000.00 since the beginning of the new fiscal year (August 1st).

Weekly Budgeted Need: $36,346.00

Year-to-Date we have received 102% of our budged need.

We hope that you can see how each week your faithful generosity is making an incredible impact here at Hyland Heights. As we recently began our new fiscal year (August-July), we want to say thank you for your continued faithfulness. Because of your incredible generosity over the past year, we have increased our regular missions giving and better budgeted to propel our ministries forward over the coming year. Our prayer is that the Lord will continue to bless your gospel generosity to advance His Kingdom in incredible ways as we all move forward together.

There are multiple ways for you to give, including: hhbc.net/give, on the HHBC app, in worship by placing your gift in the offering boxes in our worship center, or by mailing your gift to 11452 Wards Rd., Rustburg, VA 24588.

Covid Reminders:

HHBC continues to strive to keep our church family safe during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. We continue to encourage everyone to take the precautions you would take when entering into any other building. We also want to remind everyone that the 9:30 service still has plenty of room for you and your family to join us while best maintaining social distancing. Thank you for your help and understanding as we strive to keep the people we love as safe as possible. For additional information on HHBC’s response to Covid-19 go to hhbc.net/coronavirus

Sincerely,

Dr. Josh Carter Senior Pastor
